Sales Manager - Payments / FinTech
Location: UK Hybrid (Office-based several days per week + UK client travel)
Salary: £80,000 base + commission (50–100% OTE potential)
About the Role
A growing payments technology business is looking for an experienced Sales Manager to drive new business growth across complex, regulated markets.
This is a consultative sales role focused on building relationships with senior stakeholders, understanding complex business challenges and positioning solutions that help organisations manage payments securely and efficiently.
This is not a high-volume transactional sales role. Success in this position requires a thoughtful, relationship-led approach, strong commercial judgement and the ability to navigate longer, complex sales cycles.
You will inherit some warm accounts to develop, while also being responsible for identifying and converting new opportunities through strategic prospecting, networking and relationship building.
Key Responsibilities
New Business Development
- Identify and develop new business opportunities across payments, financial services and regulated industries.
- Conduct market research and account intelligence to uncover opportunities and understand customer challenges.
- Build and manage a strong pipeline through proactive outbound activity, including:
- Cold outreach
- Social selling
- Networking
- Industry events
- Account-based prospecting
Consultative Sales
- Own the full sales cycle from initial engagement through to close.
- Work with clients to understand their challenges and deliver tailored solutions.
- Lead sales conversations, presentations and proposals with senior stakeholders.
- Position solutions that address key business priorities around payments, risk and operational efficiency.
Account Growth & Relationship Management
- Develop strong relationships across client organisations and expand engagement across multiple departments.
- Identify opportunities through referrals, networking and stakeholder mapping.
- Build long-term partnerships with customers and become a trusted advisor.
Industry Networking
- Represent the business at relevant industry events and networking opportunities.
- Build relationships with prospective clients and industry contacts.
- Be confident engaging with senior professionals and creating new commercial opportunities.
Working Environment
- Hybrid role with regular office collaboration.
- Travel across the UK to meet clients and prospects.
About You
You are an experienced B2B sales professional who enjoys building relationships, solving complex problems and winning new business.
You will ideally have:
- Proven experience in new business sales, ideally within:
- Payments
- FinTech
- Financial services
- Legal technology
- SaaS
- Other regulated industries
- A strong track record of managing complex sales cycles and closing high-value opportunities.
- Experience selling consultatively rather than through transactional sales methods.
- Confidence generating pipeline through outbound prospecting and relationship building.
- The ability to engage multiple stakeholders within large organisations.
- Strong networking skills and the confidence to build relationships at industry events.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
- A self-motivated approach with the ability to manage your own pipeline and priorities.
Legal sector experience is beneficial but not essential. Experience selling solutions involving payments, data, risk, compliance or other business-critical processes would be highly relevant.
