Systems Engineer

Harrington Starr are working with a leading proprietary trading company who are looking to build out their technical team in Montreal and are hiring for a Systems Operations Engineer.

In the role, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Supporting and maintaining the firm’s trading Linux infrastructure
  • Providing Level II support
  • Contributing to tools and systems to fully automate the provisioning, configuration and monitoring of servers
  • Managing essential core services such as DHCP, LDAP, DNS, and NFS for on-prem and hosted data centers as well as public clouds
  • Participating in an on-call rotation and occasional weekend shifts
  • Interacting with both trading and core engineering teams on regular basis

To be considers for the role, you should have the following skills and experience:

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in maintenance and operation of a dynamic Linux environment
  • Daily use of and contribution to developing automation and monitoring tools, such as configuration management, source control, CI/CD, automated deployment
  • Good understanding of OS concepts and internals of Linux
  • Working knowledge of Intel-based hardware and server’s components
  • Understanding of infrastructure-as-code practices
  • Good knowledge of Python, expert knowledge of Bash
  • Understanding of server-side networking and typical network protocols

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal education in computer science or similar disciplines
  • Experience with container technologies, such as Docker and/or Kubernetes
  • Participation in open source or personal projects
  • Financial industry experience
