Infrastructure Support Engineer

Primary purpose of the role: to manage and maintain infrastructure underpinning our clients platform by supporting our platform and product teams in day to day activities.

Key responsibilities:

♦ Configuration management
♦ Infrastructure provisioning
♦ Code deployment
♦ Automate pipeline processes (build, test and deploy)
♦ Automate operational routines where ever possible
♦ Monitoring and alerting – continuously review operational activities (performance, availability and issues/errors)

Key tasks:

♦ Fault finding and resolution on system and network problems
♦ Administration of Source Control and Change Management systems
♦ Carry out deploy and release processes
♦ Ensure development and live environments are secured as far as possible and work with development teams to maintain security
♦ Pair Programming wherever possible, including with developers from other practices, to ensure high code quality
♦ Collaborates with other practice group members to define goals and solutions for achieving them
♦ Actively participates in the company’s performance management process
♦ Agrees personal objectives and goals with Line Manager / Appraiser and makes every effort to satisfy these objectives within the specified time frames

Technical Competencies:
♦ Linux / UNIX – Displays competency and depth in the Linux (or UNIX variants) operating systems. Understands file systems, kernel processes, basic networking, troubleshooting and diagnostics. Is very comfortable shell scripting in (ideally) several languages.
♦ Configuration Management - we use Saltstack. Some understanding and knowledge of Salt or some experience in an alternate technology such as ansible.
♦ AWS - Is proficient with most of the common AWS services such as EC2, IAM, Route53, RDS, S3, Security Groups, EFS and load balancing & routing. Can interact with these services via Web Console, CLI, API and Terraform.
♦ Development Tooling – Uses git, Jira, Jenkins and related tools and understands CI/CD pipelines. We really want someone who understands why these tools are important and has used them in their workflow.
Desirable Technical Competencies:
♦ Terraform - understands the principles of infrastructure as code
♦ SaltStack - understands how to build states and use Salt’s remote execution framework
♦ Docker – familiarity with Docker environments and supporting them.
♦ Oracle/Mysql – basic admin knowledge, install, setup and monitoring
♦ MongoDB - Understands core MongoDB admin concepts
♦ PaaS Technologies – Has experience using container management and platform tools such as Mesos, DC/OS, Kubernetes, Rancher, Nomad etc.
