Cloud DevOps Engineer – Algorithmic trading – King’s Cross – AWS, Linux, TCP, HTTP, Terraform, programming – £100,000-£150,000 basic salary (up to £300,000 full comp)

Harrington Starr have partnered with a highly innovative industry leading algorithmic trading company who focus on providing liquidity in Equity, FX, Fixed Income, and Commodity markets. This is a technology driven business which attracts outstanding talent from all industry backgrounds.

The client is on a mission to embed a Cloud DevOps Engineer into one of their trading application teams. The mission will be focussed on improvement of cloud-based hosts across a global collection of trading systems.

The idea of this role is to provide incremental improvement to a high performance trading platform, by finding ways of moving into existing and emerging Cloud based environments.

Responsibilities:

• Improving performance (both throughput and latency) of cloud-based trading hosts.
• Performance related on-prem work, such as hardware-specific instrumentation and coordination of A/B performance experiments.
• Driving cost efficiencies of trading products
• Add specific value-add to the platform performance

Future opportunities:

• Adapting an initial AWS-based deployment to new clouds
• Integrate all AWS-provisioning and management into the trading team’s inventory management system

Essential skillset / attributes:

• Enthusiastic about digging deeply into impact-oriented performance work
• Linux tooling, particularly network diagnostics
• Deep knowledge of protocols including TCP, WebSockets, HTTP, TLS, FIX
• Familiarity with a statically typed programming language.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code techniques
• Experience contributing to a production codebase working in a statically typed programming language.
