Our next big event is a week tomorrow, where we will be announcing the TOP 100 FinTechs of 2019 at our quarterly FinTech Influencers event.
We are very pleased to announce that our Platinum sponsor for the event, will be Simmons and Simmons. They will not only be hosting the event, but also providing complimentary drinks and canapes throughout the evening.
George Morris is a Partner at Simmons & Simmons, specialising in technology, regulatory and contractual issues. He will also be on the panel next week, discussing all things FinTech for the year ahead
We asked George what he envisages for the industry in 2019...
“The next 12 months will be a tale of upheaval in both retail and investment banking, as digital banking solutions come online to disrupt the former, and the crypto assets industry begins to transform the latter. The interesting thing will be to see how the industry reacts to these changes and how more traditional players seek to change their business models to react.”
For the last three years George has focussed in particular on the developing world of distributed ledger technology, and has advised a number of organisations, large and small, on the implementation of DLT into existing and new business lines and on the establishment of consortia for the development of DLT amongst competitors. Key issues which George is experienced in advising on in the DLT context include contractual finality (particularly on the context of “smart contracts”), confidentiality, establishment of transaction participants and contractual relationships between them.
George also specialises in digital currencies and the legal and regulatory issues surrounding these, and has advised digital currency exchanges, brokers and other market participants on the establishment and operation of their businesses, regulatory issues surrounding the trading and holding of digital currencies, and on cross-border legal risks inherent in the operation of digital currencies.
